4.8m x 4m Garden Sitting Room

A garden room doesn't need to be designated for a specific purpose such as a home office, gym, or art studio; it can also be a comfortable space to sit and take in the garden views, away from the main house's distractions. It's an ideal setting for enjoying some personal time or for entertaining friends and family. This recent project by Ark Design Build serves as an excellent example.
Ark Design Build, with expertise in custom garden room designs, serves clients in Kent, Sussex, and South London. They were tasked by clients near Sevenoaks to design and build a fully insulated garden sitting room that could be used comfortably throughout the year, regardless of the weather.
Following initial design consultations, Ark Design Build came up with a 4.8m x 4m building featuring a cubist form and a stylish, recessed front wall. This detail, along with the step, roof canopy, and wall protrusions, creates a welcoming entrance.
At the centre of the front wall, there are 3.6m wide aluminium bi-fold doors. These doors glide to one side, opening the insulated room to the garden.
A rectangular opening window is situated high on the right-hand wall. Often referred to as a letterbox window, it offers a simple ventilation option without having to open the doors.
The frames of the doors and windows are made from Anthracite Grey powder-coated aluminium, which complements the Thermowood cladding. Thermowood is a Scandinavian Redwood that has been thermally modified to improve its durability. As seen in the photos, it has a deep honey-brown shade and a pleasing grain pattern.
The step that runs along the front elevation is finished with Millboard decking, chosen to match the colour of the frames and roof trims.
Internally, Ark Design Build finishes garden rooms to the standards of a modern house, with plastered and painted walls and ceilings, paired with high-quality wooden flooring.
They offer a comprehensive electrical package, which includes a hard-wired internet connection. Ark Design Build also takes care of connecting the garden room's electricity to the main house. So, by the time the Ark Design Build team departs, the garden room is fully operational.
