This 4m x 3m garden studio by Garden Fortress has a wonderful connection with the main house, thanks to the 55sqm composite deck that connects the two buildings. Rather than be sited on its own at the end of the garden, the studio is a seamless extension of the main living space.
The customers second Garden Fortress
This garden studio is not the customers first experience of a Garden Fortress building. They had a very similar studio installed at their previous home. Having left that for the new owners to enjoy, they commissioned Garden Fortress to build them another.
Their new garden studio is a popular contemporary style with a corner of floor to ceiling glazing. Garden Fortress's customers also chose to add a narrow, long window on the end wall, offering glimpses of the garden beyond - a nice touch!
External finishes with secret fixings
Externally, the studio has been finished with Western Red Cedar cladding. Garden Fortress uses a hidden nailing system so that no fixings are visible on the surface of the cladding. This takes more time than the surface fixing used by some companies, but is worth the effort!
The richness of the Cedar cladding mixes well with the contemporary dark grey finish of the decking. Garden Fortress constructed the framework and laid the 55 square meters of composite decking as part of their overall project. Like with the Cedar cladding, Garden Fortress uses a secret fixing system for their decking. You can see the work that went into this in this timelapse video.
It is clever how the flowing shape of the decking connects the main house and the garden studio. This will enhance the inside-outside lifestyle a garden studio offers.
Remote-controlled garden studio
Inside, the highly insulated SIP's structure is finished as a room in a new build house. The walls and ceiling are plastered and decorated, and laminate flooring laid.
Garden Fortress offers a well-specified electrical package. On this project, this specification included external remote control lighting and a wi-fi connected heating system.
The project was fully completed by the Garden Fortress team in two and a half weeks.
