This project by Ark Design Build showcases how with thought and good design, a highly functional garden studio can be built in even in the smallest of gardens.
Ark Design Builds customer wanted to create a jewellery studio for her business. As space in her garden is at a premium, she also wanted her new building to incorporate a storage room, rather than have a separate shed.
To maximise the space available, the Ark Design Build team designed a bespoke sized garden studio and storage building. It is 4m / 13ft 1" wide by 1.8m / 6ft deep. We think this is the narrowest garden studio with storage we have seen over the years!
Fully insulated garden studio
The garden studio is fully insulated and designed for comfortable year-round use. The jewellery studio part of the building has a fully plastered and decorated interior. Mixed with a wooden floor, it is a light and modern workspace.
The studio features brushed steel switches and sockets. The Ark Design Build team offer an excellent standard electrical specification which includes LED lights, exterior light and data cabling. They handle the electrical connection as part of the overall price they quote customers. With most other companies, this is an additional cost.
The workroom will have good natural light for working thanks to the picture window that has been positioned on the end wall at bench height. On the front wall, a single, outward opening glazed door leads into the studio.
Secret storage shed
Alongside the workroom, is a secret storage shed. The door to which is on the front elevation, but you'd be forgiven if you had missed it! It has been clad in the same Thermowood cladding as the walls.
Thermowood is a highly durable, cladding choice. It is a more cost-effective option than Western Red Cedar but has a similar low maintenance lifespan. Thermowood starts out this rich brown, but as it ages it will weather to a mellow silver grey.
The Ark Design Build team added a 1200mm wide decked area in front of the workroom door. They have seamlessly butted it into an existing area of decking.
