Western Red Cedar has become a hugely popular finish on garden rooms because it has a long lifespan, and needs little ongoing maintenance. You do have other options, though, that offer the same durability. For instance, Siberian Larch cladding offers a lot of character on a garden room building.
As bespoke garden room designers, Swift Garden Rooms offer their clients a whole palette of options when it comes to exterior cladding finishes. On a recent garden room building, they worked with their client to create a finish which was in keeping and blended with the buildings surroundings.
The site that was chosen for the gym building was surrounded by trees that have preservation orders on them. Garden room suppliers like Swift are quite au fait at working within the rules that are associated with tree preservation orders and adapted their design and construction methods accordingly.
It was decided to help blend the new building with its woodland surroundings that a waney edge larch would be the most suitable finish. The larch has a beautiful natural colour, and the layers of board offer a real sense of depth to the building. We like the detailing that the Swift team have created around the angled buttresses each side of the doors.
Left unprotected the colour of the larch will weather to a silvery grey, which also looks fantastic, and will blend well with the trees. The clients asked for a paler grey finish on the doors and windows than the common Anthracite grey, so the Swift team made a special order for these – the beauty of a bespoke service!
The garden room is a sizeable 7 m x 4 m and 2.95 m high. Swift Garden Rooms are built upon a highly insulated SIP’s core. The interior has a fully plastered and decorated finish. The clients chose an engineered wooden floor in a rustic finish.
The garden room is suitable for year round use, its fully wired with electrics, including an air conditioning system for year round temperature control.
