This stylish garden room has been designed as a sewing room. Swift Garden Rooms worked closely with their client to create a spacious building that offers plenty of space for a sewing table, cutting table and storage. Windows on three elevations means the room will have good natural light for working. With LED downlights recessed into the ceiling allowing work continue into the evening.
While a sewing room is the ultimate use for this building, it was initially built to be used as accommodation while the main house was renovated. This is not the first time Swift Garden Rooms has been asked to design a building which could be lived in while the main house was renovated. Because the garden room was going to be used for sleeping, it needed to be built to Building Regulation standards. Not all garden room companies offer this service, but the Swift Garden Rooms team are au fait with the process and requirements. Over the years they have built several garden rooms that can be lived in including several granny annexe buildings.
To enable the room to be lived in, a compact shower room and kitchenette were incorporated into the design. The addition of these facilities will enhance the useability, once it becomes a sewing room. As part of their turnkey service, the Swift Garden Rooms team will have organised the groundworks and connection of the water and waste to the mains services.
Bespoke design features
Swift Garden Rooms are bespoke design specialists, who are not afraid to push the envelope of garden room design. In this case, a striking curved wall has been incorporated into the design, where many other designers would have just used a straight wall. The garden room is 7 meters wide by 4 meters deep, and the main room has an L-shaped form.
A deck and roof canopy extends beyond the wall housing the bi-fold doors, creating a sheltered entrance to the room. Black composite decking has been used to create the veranda area. With Cedar cladding detailed to accentuate the curved roof canopy. The black roof kerb has also been detailed to gently follow the curve.
We like how the Swift team and their customer have opted to space narrow, full height windows around the room. They not only let in lots of natural light into the room, but they also frame glimpses of the landscaped garden.
Fell in love with the idea of a garden room
Swift’s customer fell in love with the idea of a garden room having spent time in a building that the Swift team built for her daughter. So, could see how versatile a garden room can be. The budget for this garden room was £45,000 to £50,000 including VAT. The building was fully finished in two and a half weeks.
Customer feedback:
Swift has produced a wonderful garden room for us. It was important to spend time with Martin designing and refining the plans, and in the end, our expectations were exceeded. Paulo (the actual builder) worked so hard and was meticulous in his attention to detail and also happy to discuss any issues that arose. The team behind him coordinated the deliveries, and the process for us was trouble free. If there were any hitches, they communicated with us promptly, and they left the area tidy. I wholeheartedly recommend the company.
