Most garden room companies work in standard unit sizes - to the nearest meter or half meter, while others work in whole feet. This works well for most buyers, but there are occasions when a more specific size - to the nearest centimetre is the best way to maximise the space available.
Garden Spaces are a company who will create a custom-sized garden room for you, that makes full use of the space you have on offer. This stylish garden room with storage area is a fine example.
Garden Spaces client wanted to maximise the space they had at the end of their garden. A standard size garden room would not have achieved this, leaving 'dead' area around the building. The Garden Spaces team worked out that with their efficient building systems, they could maximise the space, creating a structure with a footprint of 6.68m x 3.68m.
Taller than the average garden room
The building is also taller than the average garden room. The majority of garden rooms built each year are 2.5m high, as this offers maximum flexibility when building under the Permitted Development rules. Some buyers desire higher ceilings in their new room - we often see this in garden gyms, where extra height when using equipment is a bonus.
Garden Spaces clients planned to use their new room as a home office and relaxation room. They decided that a room with a higher ceiling was what they wanted, so Garden Spaces designed the building to be 2.7m tall, creating a floor to ceiling height of 2.4m, which will give the space an airy feel.
A planning application was successfully made to approve the design. Garden Spaces are able to handle planning applications as part of their overall service.
Discreet storage area alongside the garden room
Often when we write about garden rooms with storage area, they are rectangular buildings with a dividing wall separating the main room from the storage area. With this design, the storage room has been discreetly recessed back from the front elevation.
The main room has a footprint of 16.8sqm, while the storage area is 2.3sqm.
While the main room has a high-spec plastered and decorated finish, the storage area has a practical and durable OSB finish. Garden Spaces can fit lighting and electrical sockets in their storage or workshop areas as required.
Corner bi-fold doors
Recessing the storage room has meant that a corner of bi-fold doors could be created. Two sets of bi-fold doors unwrap the interior space and let it flow out onto the composite decking.
High spec Schuco bi-fold doors were chosen. They have been finished in a specific RAL colour to match the doors and windows used on the rear of the customer's house. Garden Spaces customers also upgraded the roof kerbs so that it could be finished in the same RAL colour. Little details like this add up to the success of the project.
A mix of external claddings
Externally two different cladding materials have been mixed together. On the non-visible side and rear walls, a cement particle board has been fitted. This is a highly durable finish which is perfect for inaccessible walls.
On the front elevation, a high-spec Sivalbp cladding has been fitted. With Sivalbp, timbers are carefully dried and then heated at high temperature to enhance the durability and stability of the boards. The boards are then colour coated before leaving the factory for the optimal finish.
As we can see, the finish chosen works well with the custom colour of the door frames. Keeping the palette of external finishes to one colour is very effective.
