While most garden rooms built each year are in peoples back gardens. Some companies also offer a design service for more commercial projects, creating multifunctional spaces for businesses, charities and care homes.
Ark Design Build offer a commercial garden room design service in Kent Sussex and London. They recently created this splendid building for a charity. The building has created a multifunctional community hub for its members.
This 9.6m x 4.8m garden room is a bespoke design tailored to the charity's specific needs. At 2.8m it is taller than the average garden room. Ark Design Build obtained permission for this taller building on their client's behalf, as part of their turnkey service.
The charity wanted a building that could serve multiple uses. When restrictions allow, it will be used for gatherings and classes. We hear that the charity will use the large deck for outdoor yoga sessions. Lovely in the tree-lined setting.
On that note, just look at how the Ark Design Build team have shaped the deck around the trees while respecting the fact that the trees need space to grow. We have seen Ark Design Build do this before on this garden room with secret shed project.
Inside, the building has been split up to create a toilet and kitchen. The Ark Design Build team fitted out the bathroom and installed the kitchen as part of their turnkey service. This included all the necessary groundworks and connections to the mains services and having the work signed off by the Building Control Inspector.
The interior of the building has a high spec plastered and decorated finish. The room will be naturally light with the mix of bi-fold doors and the tall windows.
We like the corner glazing feature in this project We haven't seen a collection of narrow glimpse windows spaced like this before, creating
a glazed corner feature.
The exterior of the building has low maintenance finishes. Ark Design Build use powder-coated aluminium framed doors and windows, which will stand the test of time without needing maintenance.
The external cladding is Thermowood, which as we can see has a lovely honey brown colouring and attractive knot pattern.
Thermowood is a softwood that is treated at a very high temperature which causes structural changes in the wood, which increases its durability.
Thermowood can be left bare, without paint and stain and will weather, over time to a silvery grey colour. This colour change does not affect the durability of the cladding, just its appearance.
If you are thinking of a highly insulated, tailor-made commercial building, Ark Design Build are the people to talk too.
