This rather impressive project is by Blyss Garden Rooms, who have created a unique multi-function building tailored to their client's requirements. The design incorporates a family space with a custom-made bar, a home gym, and a spacious workshop. The garden room is a real indoor-outdoor space with a hot tub sunk into a large Balau deck.
The workshop and family room have different interior specifications
The garden room has been divided into two main spaces with different interior specifications. The family entertainment room, which is 6m x 5m, has a high specification plastered and decorated finish. As we can see from this photo, it is a lovely room, a key feature of which is the custom-made bar.
The home gym leads off the main room and also features a plastered and decorated finish.
However, the 6m x 3m workshop is left unfinished internally, with the durable OSB surface of the insulated structure left exposed. We are pretty envious of this insulated workshop space!
The workshop is accessed via custom-made Thermowood double doors, so manoeuvring items in and out of the workshop will be easy.
Custom-made bar & changing area
Blyss Garden Rooms not only designed and built the building but also made some custom furniture for the interior spaces.
A key feature of the main room is the bar, which features Balau slats which mirror the screens used externally, and is topped off with a single piece of Walnut.
Floating shelves have been fitted behind the bar incorporating colour-changing LED lights, which, as this photo shows, set the mood and show off the bottles.
In the gym room, some of the leftover Cedar and Balau from the exterior features have been used to create a changing area for the hot tub, which is one of the best 'off-cut' creations we've seen.
Smartphone controlled electrics
The electrics in this garden room, which include LED light, air conditioning, TV points etc., are all WiFi-enabled, so the owners will be able to control them from their mobile phone.
A Balau deck extends the living space
This project is a great indoor-outdoor living space. You can tell that a lot of consideration has gone into the design of the area in front of the garden room, including designing around an existing apple tree. Look closely, and you will see that the tree now sits within the deck, with the roof canopy shaped to allow the tree canopy to continue growing.
A key feature of the deck is the hot tub which has been sunk down into it. A contemporary style pergola covers the hot tub, and Cedar screens have been positioned to offer users privacy, but the front screen has been designed so users can see through it.
The decking is made from Balau, which is a highly durable hardwood. As we can see, the Balau used has a rich reddish-brown colouring which works well with the Western Red Cedar used for the exterior cladding, pergola and privacy screens.
Finishing the deck area, the Blyss Garden Rooms team have added steps that incorporate LED lighting and a flower border along the front.
Reclaimed cladding incorporated
While high spec Western Red Cedar and Balua have been used on the visible elevations, reclaimed timbers have been used to clad the hidden rear wall. Blyss Garden Rooms clients wanted to utilise the timber from their old log cabin building, and the Blyss team were happy to run with this, liking the opportunity to reuse timber and save their clients some money.
