Garden office and entertaining space

Currently, a trend in garden office design is the addition of a covered area next to the insulated workspace, serving as a spot for relaxation and entertainment. As shown by this My Eco Space project, these two functionalities can be combined seamlessly into one cohesive building.
Such a combination of indoor-outdoor space allows you to appreciate your garden throughout the year. The fully insulated room provides a comfortable space for everyday use, while the covered seating allows enjoyment of the garden even on rainy days.
This custom design by My Eco Space features a 5m x 4m garden office coupled with a 4m x 2.5m covered seating area. Interestingly, there's a dual-access cloakroom, reachable from both inside the office and the garden.
Mono-pitched Garden Office
A unique aspect of this project is its mono-pitched roofline. This design slopes from the centre outwards on both the main office and seating section. The office roof stands at 3m at its tallest and slopes to just under 2.5m at the eaves, while the seating area's roof is 2.7m high and reduces to below 2.5m.
Such a roof design offers a more elevated ceiling than typically seen in garden offices, making the workspace feel spacious and open.
Double-aspect glazing ensures a room with plenty of natural light, and the two bi-fold door sets can be opened fully, enhancing the connection between the indoors and outdoors.
My Eco Space uses Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for their garden offices, which ensures a highly insulated structure, further enhanced by added interior and exterior layers.
Inside, the office is finished akin to a room in a house with crisply plastered walls and ceiling. And, for temperature control throughout the year, an air conditioning system has been installed.
Slate-clad Garden Office
This project highlights that garden office exteriors aren't confined to timber. Companies like My Eco Space offer various cladding options. In this instance, the choice was black slate slips, giving a beautifully textured appearance, complete with the soft colour variations typical of slate.
The slate is paired with Thermowood cladding fixed vertically. As the images show, these two finishes complement each other well. Additionally, the combination promises long-term durability with minimal maintenance.
Both materials are also featured in the covered seating area, with the slate forming an accent wall and the timber cladding adding interest to the canopy's underside.
Thoughtfully added exterior lighting allows the space to be used long into the evening.
Garden Office with a Waterless Toilet
Included in the garden office is a cloakroom with dual access from both the office and garden. An external timber screen subtly blends the cloakroom's entrance into the overall design.
Bypassing the effort and cost of connecting the plumbing to the house’s mains supply, an off-grid solution was preferred. My Eco Space incorporated a contemporary waterless toilet, complemented by a dry handwash dispenser.

From start to finish, My Eco Space handled all aspects of the project, from installing the groundscrew foundation system to connecting the garden office's electrics to the main house, which involved a 75m stretch of armoured cable.
