One of the key appeals of garden room buildings lies in the flexibility they offer in terms of design, allowing them to be tailored specifically to meet your needs. This process not only ensures that the space serves your intended purpose but also enables you to dictate how the structure integrates with your garden, fostering a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor environments.
Companies specialising in bespoke garden room design, such as Swift Unlimited, are acutely aware that the process of creating a garden room goes beyond its functional use. It's equally about how the room harmonises with its surroundings and the lifestyle it can nurture by striking a balance between these two elements.
In a recent project located in Cheshire, Swift Unlimited had the opportunity to work closely with clients whose garden boasts spectacular, uninterrupted views of the Cheshire countryside. The clients envisioned a versatile garden room that could serve as a cosy and inviting space throughout the year, functioning as an office, gym, and entertainment area.
Designed to Appreciate the Views, Not Obstruct Them
Swift Unlimited's clients were keen on constructing a building that would allow them to fully appreciate the surrounding countryside views without the structure itself obstructing the view from the house and the rest of the garden.
In a collaborative effort with the clients' landscape designers, Swift Unlimited selected a location on the lower terrace of the garden for the garden room. This strategic positioning ensures that the building nestles within the landscape, maintaining a low profile when observed from further up the garden.
To further integrate the building into its surroundings, a decision was made to install a living roof. Swift Unlimited employs low-growing Sedum plants for their green roofs, known for their low maintenance requirements and their ability to provide year-round interest and colour. This not only helps the garden room blend seamlessly with the natural environment but also enhances its ecological value.
5m x 6m Multifunctional Garden Room
Sitting on a generous footprint of 5m x 6m, this garden room is perfectly sized to fulfil the clients' vision of a multifunctional space that seamlessly combines a home office, gym, and entertainment area.
Acknowledging the importance of the views in the building's design, Swift Unlimited incorporated a striking corner of glazing, featuring oversized sliding doors. The large glass panels ensure unobstructed views of the garden, while the doors facilitate effortless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Strategically positioned picture windows face the main house, offering the owners a continuous sightline through the building, through the sliding doors to the countryside beyond.
The accompanying photos showcase Swift Unlimited's commitment to finishing the interior of their garden rooms to a high standard. The walls and ceiling are plastered and decorated, complemented by high-quality wooden flooring. The abundant natural light streaming through the glazing bathes the room in a light and airy ambience.
During the design phase, Swift Unlimited carefully plans the electrical layout to cater to individual needs. For this project, the electrical specification included a hard-wired internet connection, TV and HDMI cabling, remote-controlled lighting, power sockets with USB chargers, external power sockets, and an alarm system, ensuring both functionality and convenience are at the forefront of their design.
Finishes That Replicate Those on the Main House
The exterior of the garden room boasts Siberian Larch cladding, elegantly finished to mirror the architectural details of the main house, particularly those seen in a recent house extension. Sections of the cladding feature a 'hit and miss' pattern, a thoughtful detail that enhances the visual connection between the new garden room and the main house.
Siberian Larch is celebrated for its durability and minimal maintenance requirements, making it an ideal choice for exterior finishes. It has a soft honey-brown shade and an appealing grain pattern, as showcased in the accompanying images. When combined with Anthracite Grey doors and window frames, the Larch cladding contributes to a strikingly contemporary aesthetic.
