Collaborating with a bespoke designer like Ark Design Build is a highly interactive process. They invest time to understand your vision for your garden room, incorporating your ideas into their bespoke designs. A recent project in Tunbridge Wells demonstrates this approach.
Their client wanted to create a studio space in their garden and suggested softening the structure by replacing a 90-degree corner with an angled wall. They opted to incorporate a tall window with a top opener into the angled wall. This angled placement directs the view from inside the room into the heart of the elegant garden.
Another notable feature is the triple sliding doors. High-spec powder-coated aluminium frames have been used for both doors and windows.
Garden Studio with Extended Height
Ark Design Build’s clients requested a studio with a greater internal ceiling height than is typical for garden rooms.
Garden rooms built to comply with Permitted Development regulations have a maximum external height of 2.5m. Depending on the structural build-up of the design, this can provide an internal floor-to-ceiling height of approximately 2050mm.
The clients wanted more headroom, so they requested a design with an extended roofline. This increased height meant the project required planning approval, which Ark Design Build managed as part of their comprehensive service.
6.5m x 4m Garden Studio
The garden studio has a 6.5m x 4m footprint and is clad externally in Western Red Cedar. The vertical cladding accentuates the room’s contemporary feel. The photos highlight the beautiful colour variations that Western Red Cedar is renowned for.
The Ark Design Build team have an eye for detailing the Cedar - just look at the way the edge of the canopy soffit is rebated against the bottom of the fascia boards creating a subtle shadow line.
Well-Specified Interior
Internally, Ark Design Build finishes their buildings to a high standard, featuring plasterboarded, skimmed, and decorated walls and ceilings, along with durable wooden flooring.
The electrical specification is also comprehensive. Ark Design Build includes elements as standard that many competitors offer only as optional extras. These include a hard-wired internet connection between the garden room and the house and the final electrical connection between the two buildings.
