Creating a space where young children can safely play and store all their toys can be a challenge for any family. A garden room playroom offers a delightful solution, blending the joy of indoor play with the benefits of being outdoors. This unique setup not only provides a dedicated area for children to enjoy their toys but also fosters a seamless connection with the garden, encouraging an indoor-outdoor childhood that is nurturing, enriching, and memorable.
A high-quality, fully insulated garden room is an investment that evolves with the family. As the children grow, this versatile space can transform from a fun playroom into a homework room, a teenagers' den, or even a music room. The adaptability of a garden room ensures it remains a valuable and functional part of the home for years to come.
This recent project by Cosy Garden Rooms is an excellent example of a garden room playroom. Built in Greater Manchester, the 5m x 4m building was installed and ready to use in just three days on-site. The project cost £25,000, including the foundation and the final electrical connection to the house.
Extending the Downstairs Space
The clients live in a three-story townhouse and, with two young children, wanted to create a dedicated playroom for them. The downstairs floor plan of their house didn’t offer the space to create a playroom, and they didn’t want the hassle and expense of moving house or the disruption of building a house extension. Instead, they turned to the space in their garden.
After thoroughly researching their options, they chose to work with Cosy Garden Rooms, who could fulfil their brief of creating a quality garden room finished externally with low-maintenance materials. Inside, they wanted a space that could incorporate plenty of toy storage and leave ample space for playing. They were also looking for interior finishes that could easily be wiped clean.
5m x 4m Garden Room
Following the design process, where Cosy Garden Rooms take time to understand what each client is looking to achieve, they designed a 5m x 4m building clad externally in Hardie Plank cladding, a cement fibre board that requires little maintenance. It is a robust, dimensionally stable board that is coloured during the manufacturing process. Hardie Plank has a long lifespan and does not require painting to maintain its appearance. The Light Mist colour was chosen, which, when paired with Anthracite Grey uPVC doors, windows, and trims, creates a smart, modern look.
Bi-fold doors were chosen for the front elevation. These doors can be pushed to one side, allowing play to spill out into the garden. A narrow rectangular window has been positioned high in the right-hand wall, allowing for easy ventilation in the room.
A 600mm deep roof canopy has been fitted with exterior LED downlights, which cast an attractive light along the front of the building.
Inside, the grooved wall panels have been painted white and mixed with light grey laminate flooring. Both finishes are perfect for a playroom as they are durable and easy to clean.
A Room of Their Own
Adding a dedicated playroom has been a great success for the family. The children are enjoying the dedicated play area and the connection with the garden. We hear that they are quite houseproud, keeping the toys in the playroom much tidier than when in the house! It's also a place where they can display their trophies and artwork.
