A garden room is one of the most flexible ways of adding space to your home. Not only are they quick to build, but they can also be designed to serve multiple functions. Garden Spaces were asked by a family to create a sizeable garden room; that would cover a multitude of functions and free up valuable space in the main house.
Garden Spaces’ client gave them a brief to create a home gym with adjoining toilet, a utility area, a large games room and storage room. Garden Spaces offer a bespoke design service and so were happy to create a one-off building that would solve all these space requirements. They ended up creating a building 5.08 meters by 12.08 meters. This is a very sizeable building made up of three rooms offering an internal area of 29.2 square meters and a storage area of 15.2 sqm.
This is truly a bespoke build with the gym area at the front being dug down to create extra ceiling height. An area of decking that runs along the side of the building was ramped to allow for the height differential. This decking is made from a low maintenance composite which will retain its colour and won’t become slippery.
The gym is flooded with natural light thanks to the set of 4 leaf bi-fold doors, which allow the front elevation of the building to be completely opened up. When the bi-folds are open, they lead onto the decking, creating a clever bit of extra space in the gym. The glazing wraps around the corner of the building, this frames a view of the garden. The doors and windows are double glazed toughened units. A Planitherm coating has been applied to the glass which achieves and A rating for thermal efficiency.
Internally the main living areas have a fully plastered and decorated finish which is coupled with 10mm oak effect laminate flooring. This is an ideal choice for all the different uses and comes with a 25-year manufacturers warranty. The storage area is left the basic SIP’s finish which is an orientated strand board.
The building is well specified electrically, with 13 internal and seven external LED down-lights. The storage room has two strip lights. There are seven double power sockets. The electrical system was installed by Garden Spaces qualified electrician.
