This lovely art studio is by Hargreaves Garden Spaces. With an eye for colour and composition, their client chose olive green composite cladding for the exterior so that the building blends with the natural colours of the garden. We'd say this was a successful choice.
Built on tricky sloping ground
As we can see from these photos, the 3.5m x 3m art studio has been built on sloping ground, close to a retaining wall. Many garden room companies would consider this too difficult a site to work with, but Hargreaves Garden Spaces designed a bespoke foundation to overcome the sloping ground.
Hargreaves Garden Spaces's foundation is a combination of a concrete strip foundation and pile foundations. They then built a set of deck steps that allow for easy access and offer room for a chair or two outside the studio. A balustrade protects users from the drop where the retaining wall is.
Low maintenance cladding
Hargreaves Garden Spaces offer its clients a wide range of exterior cladding options. Over the years, we have featured projects of theirs that have Western Red Cedar cladding, British Cedar cladding, Scandinavian Redwood cladding and a mix of render and timber claddings.
Hargreaves Garden Spaces also offer composite cladding, which is what this customer chose. In choosing composite cladding, the owners have created a coloured finish for the exterior of their studio but are not committing themselves to long-term maintenance to maintain the colour.
Composite cladding is pigmented with colour during manufacturing and does not require repainting. Composite cladding finishes are also resistant to rot and fungal attack, so it is an excellent long-term choice.
The low-maintenance olive green cladding has been mixed with anthracite grey uPVC door and window frames. Sliding doors have been fitted on the front elevation, and a full-height window on the left-hand wall frames a view towards the house. This combination ensures that the studio will be full of natural light, ideal for an art studio.
Plastered and decorated interior
The interior of garden rooms by Hargreaves Garden Spaces have the feel of a newly built house, with durable laminate flooring and a plastered and decorated interior, skirting boards etc.
The art studio is fully wired with lights and a good supply of power points. Hargreaves Garden Spaces upgraded the power and light sockets from standard units to smart sockets, so the owner has complete control over the electrics in their studio from their smartphone.
