Swift Garden Rooms recently approached by clients to create such a room for them and their three boys. Living in a London terrace space is at at a premium, but they did have space in the garden for a large 5 meter x 5 meter family room. The brief from the clients was to create a space for games / TV and generally raising havoc!
A bespoke designers Swift created a garden room design just for them. The 2.5 meter high building has been sited tight to the boundaries of the garden to maximise the space available. There is rear access to the garden behind the site of the garden room. Swift have cleverly included a door in the rear wall of the room so that they can still access the gate. By choosing a fully glazed door, the door also is an extra light source for the room.
Hidden from view is also a purpose built covered bike area. This is a clever use of space.
A large section of the front elevation opens up onto the garden thanks to the 3-leaf bi-fold doors. The black finish of these doors and the curbing on the roof contrasts well with the Western Red Cedar cladding.
Internally the room has been cladded in vertical tongue and groove boards which have then been painted. This is a finish we have always liked, but don’t see used often in garden room design these days. This is the beauty of bespoke garden room design, you can specify the finishes you want, you don’t just have to go with standard finishes.

The whole process has been very easy and straight forward, everything happened as Martin said it would, and to time. Everybody at Swift from Martin through to the office staff and building team were easy to deal with. I really liked the fact that we had a lot of control over the finished look, other companies we looked at had a choice of 2 floors, paint colours etc. but Swift were open to all suggestions. The actual garden room has transformed our home, we live in a typical London terrace with 3 boys and the garden room has given us a large space for them to use for games/TV and general raising havoc! It’s pretty sound proof and the finish is excellent, it feels like a proper, solid room.
