To one side or in front
The side canopy's depth depends on the space you have available and how you plan to use it. It is common for the canopy to extend from the side of the garden room, but it doesn't have to. Solid walls or no walls
Exploring the projects in the section below, you will see that some designs have solid walls supporting the roof canopy. In other configurations, the roof is supported by posts creating openings where guests can flow unobstructed into the garden. The choice is yours!
Add a skylight
Some companies will form a skylight in the centre of the canopy so you can watch the clouds move by. In some cases, we have seen these skylights be left open, and in others, it has been glazed, allowing you to sit comfortably outside even if it's raining.
Extend the use into the evening
A garden room with a covered seating area can be a lovely spot to be as night draws in. Most garden room companies offer the option of incorporating lighting into the underside of the canopy. They utilise exterior-grade LED downlighting. Some companies offer systems where you can change the colour of the lighting via your smartphone.
Combining materials to great effect
You will see in the projects below that some companies tie the covered seating area into the insulated garden room by using the same materials in both sections. Other designers will mix materials to accentuate elements of the design. The different colours or textures of the finishes can be very effective.
