Imagine an early morning in your garden: the day is just beginning, and you're serenading the dawn with your saxophone. Now, imagine that none of your neighbours raise any concerns about this early-hour musical expression. This isn’t just a dream—it’s a reality for a Garden Spaces customer. Thanks to their bespoke garden music room, playing the saxophone at 7 a.m. has become complaint-free!
Specialising in soundproof garden rooms, Garden Spaces has become the go-to choice for professional musicians, vocal artists, and recording specialists across the country. Their reputation is built on their commitment to customising acoustic specifications to suit individual needs.
They offer four different acoustic specifications and enrich their designs with additional soundproofing elements: acoustic porches, double-skinned windows, acoustic glazing, and specialised ventilation systems.
Tailor-made Acoustic Package
Garden Spaces collaborates with their customer on each project. This collaboration covers the building’s dimensions, door and window configurations and the finishing touches. For those seeking a soundproof studio, the acoustic enhancement level can also be customised.
This recent project measures 3.95m x 3.50m and incorporated the Garden Spaces Platinum acoustic specification. This design was enhanced by an acoustic porch and a double-skinned window.
The Platinum specification enhances the Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) core structure with the following elements:
- Floor: Features a 3-layer 12mm acoustic underlay mat, surrounded by a perimeter flanking band, topped with a 12mm laminate floor.
- Walls: Begin with metal furring strips and fasteners, layered with acoustic wool and plasterboard. This is followed by a 2.6mm self-adhesive acoustic rubber membrane, and another layer of acoustic plasterboard.
- Ceiling: Uses the 2.6mm acoustic rubber membrane, resilient bars, and a final layer of acoustic plasterboard.
The acoustic porch in this design has two 900mm wide glass doors, made with RAL 7016 aluminium frames and acoustic glazing. Alongside these doors is a double-skinned picture window with similar acoustic properties, ensuring ample natural light and a welcoming ambience.
Plastered and Decorated Interior
Garden Spaces finishes the interior of their music rooms to a high standard. The walls and ceiling have been plastered and decorated in the client's choice of colour. Once completed, the customer chose to fit slatted acoustic panels on the walls. These not only enhance sound reduction but also add a stylish flair.
To control the temperature in the music room, Garden Spaces installed an air conditioning unit with a smart climate controller, so the owner will be able to set their perfect working temperature all year round.
Oiled Thermowood Cladding
Externally, Garden Spaces offers a wide selection of cladding finishes. For the exterior of their music room, the customer opted for Thermowood, a durable heat-treated softwood known for its warm honey-brown shade and striking grain. To prolong this natural hue, Garden Spaces treated the wood with Danish Oil during installation. This not only protects against colour changes from weathering but also provides a moisture-repelling sheen.
The rear wall, featuring cement particle board painted in RAL7016, matches the door and window frames. This low-maintenance choice, is often chosen for less visible or difficult-to-access elevations because of its durability.
