Garden office with zero maintenance cladding
Published: 30 January 2023
This bespoke 3.6m x 3.8m garden office showcases Garden Spaces' new zero maintenance slatted cladding option. Two large picture windows have been positioned at desk height to offer a great connection with the garden as the owner works.
As one of the most experienced names in the garden room industry, Garden Spaces know that their customers have busy lifestyles and want to avoid buying a building that is going to require ongoing maintenance.
So, they have created one of the most extensive ranges of low-maintenance exterior finishes we've seen. They have recently added another option, a zero maintenance slatted cladding that is available in three contemporary colours.
This 3.6m x 3.8m garden office showcases this new finish, and we think it looks great! We particularly like that it has been fixed vertically, enhancing the pinstripe effect.
Garden Spaces customers chose the Midnight colour option, which they have mixed with RAL7016 Aluminium doors and windows. As we can see, this combination of finishes looks really smart.
Composite slatted cladding
In choosing this new cladding option for their garden office, Garden Spaces customer knows that their building will maintain its new appearance in the long term without them committing to a maintenance schedule.
Made from a mixture of real wood fibres and resins, composite wood cladding is highly durable, dimensionally stable and resistant to rot. The boards are coloured during the manufacturing process, so don't require painting to maintain their colour. At most, all composite wood cladding requires is a soapy wash to keep looking good.
The slatted profile of this new cladding option adds interest to the exterior of a garden office. The straight lines add to the contemporary style of the design, and the shadow gaps between each slat create an interesting sense of depth.
Garden Spaces offer a palette of exterior cladding options
As we mentioned earlier, Garden Spaces offer a palette of low-maintenance exterior cladding options. These Garden Spaces projects that we have recently explored offer a snapshot of the variety of their cladding options.
If you are looking for a timber finish, Garden Spaces off the natural beauty and durability of Western Red Cedar. Alternatively, there is Thermowood which you can leave bare or stain for a contemporary look.
Alongside their timber options, Garden Spaces offer maintenance-free Cedral Click cladding with its smooth contemporary lines, available in a broad palette of colours. They also offer cement particle boards which can be finished in RAL colours to match your door and window frames.
As we can see, with each of these projects, the exterior cladding plays a key role in the aesthetic of the building.
3.6m x 3.8m garden office
Garden Spaces offer a bespoke design service, so each building they work on is different. The size, configuration of doors and windows and the combination of exterior finishes are all decided in collaboration with their client.
This 3.6m x 3.8m garden office is an excellent example of this personalised approach. The large picture windows positioned at desk height are an impressive feature that will make for a lovely working position overlooking the garden.
Garden Spaces create a 3d visualisation of each project
This window configuration is made up of two 1500mm wide fixed pane windows connected by a central mullion. This is a much bigger desk-height window arrangement than you usually see in garden room design. It is another example of how Garden Spaces tailor each specification around the individual customer rather than making them choose from a fixed range of options.
The glazing configuration is completed with Aluminium French doors, and a top-hung rectangular window on the rear elevation. Adding a small window like this is an easy way to ventilate a garden office.
Anthracite grey-coloured venetian blinds have been fitted within the glazing. This is a streamlined way of adding blinds, and because the blind is within the glass, the slats won't get dusty! The blinds are easily controlled with a pull cord.
The exterior is completed with other maintenance-free finishes
The front and left-hand elevations, which face into the garden, have been finished in the composite cladding. The hidden walls have been cladded in cement particle board.
Cement particle board is a mix of cement and real wood fibres, which creates a robust and durable finish. Like composite wood, it is not susceptible to rot and is dimensionally stable.
Garden Spaces paint the cement particle board with a Resifine finish. RAL 7016 was used, which is the same colour as the Aluminium door and window frames.
Because cement particle board has a long maintenance-free lifespan, it is an excellent choice for boundary-facing walls where access for maintenance is restricted.
The garden office roof has been finished with an EPDM rubber roofing system. EPDM has a lifespan of several decades are is laid in one piece, unlike other roofing systems.
Light, modern interior
Garden Spaces finish the interior of their garden offices to a high specification. The walls and ceiling are plastered and decorated, creating a light modern space.
Garden Spaces clients chose engineered wood flooring in a Paloma grey finish for their garden office.
The electrical specification of a Garden Spaces garden office is also tailored to your requirements. In this case, the electrical package included an air conditioning system fitted with a smart climate control system, so the owners can control their working temperature all year round.
