Because of the way garden rooms are built, they are the ideal building system when confronted with a difficult site. SIPS Garden Rooms were recently faced with a site which would be considered tricky by many.
As they told us, their brief was to create a box within a box. Their customers wanted to create a garden room with shower room on a plot that is surrounded by four walls owned by two different properties, one of which is a school.
SIPS Garden Rooms designed a building that was positioned 450mm away from the four walls. They also had to negotiate the mains and sewerage supply being under the site for the building. All deliveries had to be arranged outside of school hours so as not to cause congestion down the narrow country lane. So, there were lots of obstacles to overcome.
Despite the obstacles SIPS Garden Rooms have designed and built a stylish garden room for their clients. The floor to ceiling glazing has created a light and airy room. The glazing is made up with a three leaf set of bi-fold doors and a fixed pane window to the side elevation. This has been cleverly positioned as it overlaps a window from the main house. The building has been finished with black weatherboard cladding which matches in with the black joinery – black garden rooms have become very popular over the last couple of years.
The building has a mono pitch roof which slopes towards the front of the building. A standing seam roof has been fitted. This not only looks great but will offer more protection than other finishes should a tile fall from one of the surrounding roofs.
Internally the room is finished to a high standard. It has been fully plastered and decorated, mixed with the wooden floor a modern look has been created. The main room has LED downlights in the ceiling and brushed steel sockets. Underfloor heating has been fitted throughout the building which is controlled by a touch screen thermostat.
A modern shower room has been installed making the room self contained, the ideal space for overnight guests.
As their company name suggests, SIPS Garden Rooms build their buildings with a structurally insulated panel core structure. The firm is au fait with current Building Regulations, and the different foundation systems appropriate for each type of site. So, they are equipped for whatever the site or design brief might throw at them.
