Outdoor entertainment spaces that combine indoor and outdoor living areas are growing in popularity. People are choosing to mix a fully insulated garden room with an open-fronted, covered area alongside.
These covered outdoor areas are often used as seating or dining spaces, but they can also be the perfect spot for a hot tub, as these two Swift Garden Rooms projects show.
Tailor-made designs
Swift are bespoke designers who tailor each of their designs around their client's intended use and tastes. This is showcased in these two projects, each one combining a highly insulated garden room that will be used as an entertainment space, with a covered area alongside that houses a hot tub.
While the two buildings have the same intended use, the designs are very different, brilliantly showcasing how the Swift team treats each client individually rather than selling them a one size fits all design.
Entertainment room with hot tub & shower room
This first example has an overall footprint of 12m wide by 6m deep. The main room is designed for year-round entertaining, complete with a bar and space for two sofas.
Aluminium bi-fold doors fold to one side to create a great flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Built with SIP's panels, this is a highly insulated structure. Inside, the room is plastered and decorated for a high spec finish. Air conditioning has been fitted so the owners can control the temperature all year round.
Sliding doors lead out into the covered area, which has been designed to house a hot tub. A glazed skylight has been positioned over the hot tub, which is a lovely feature for sitting back and watching the clouds. Exterior grade LED downlights have also been fitted in the roof canopy, extending the areas use into the evening.
The Swift team considered the weight of the hot tub when designing the foundation system. Their structural engineers worked out the size and positioning of the ground screws to distribute the weight evenly.
Behind the hot tub area is a shower room. Unusually, this is accessed from the outdoor covered area; more commonly, we would see a shower room lead off the main room, but this makes sense as the owners can freshen up as they get out of the hot tub without dripping water through the main room.
Year-round hot tub space
With this second example, having returned from living abroad, Swift's clients wanted to recreate their indoor-outdoor lifestyle with a place they could use their hot tub all year round.
At 7.6m wide by 4m deep, the footprint of this building is smaller than our first example but certainly not lacking in features.
The main room is going to be used for relaxing and entertaining. It features an oversized projector screen for movie nights, and as we can see from the photos, the owners have fitted a bar for drinks and snacks!
Behind the projector screen, a valuable storage area has been created. Personalised design details like this are among the many benefits of working with a bespoke design specialist like Swift.
Again, a skylight has been positioned over the hot tub area. This skylight is glazed, so the owners can sit in the hot tub even when it is raining.
A large composite deck in front of the garden room has created another lovely entertainment area with space for a barbeque.
