This recent project by Outside In Garden Rooms really caught our eye when we spotted it on Twitter. There were two elements that made it stand out from the crowd. The first being the grey cladding finish and the second being the detailing around the roof canopy.
Grey Larch cladding
The exterior of the garden room has been clad in Russwood SILA A/B® Siberian Larch. This is a highly durable softwood that offers a long lifespan. Siberian Larch is relatively knot free and has attractive patternation from the growth rings. It starts out a honey yellow colour which will weather to a silver grey, over time, which is lovely. The thing is, weathering of any timber cladding can be patchy, depending on the exposure of the boards.
If you want to achieve an even, mellow grey/silver finish, it is wise to have a specialist treatment applied. In this case, Outside In Garden Rooms had the Larch factory coated with Mid Grey SiOO:X. This is a specialist Swedish product that uses silicons which react with carbon dioxide and moisture in the atmosphere to weather the timber. Because this is a factory coated treatment, the weathering/colour change is much more even than if left to weather naturally. Also, you get the grey finish from day one!
The result is a very stylish finish, that will maintain its appearance in the long term.
Striking roof canopy detailing
The second feature of this garden room that caught our eye is how the Outside In team have detailed the canopy that runs along the front of the building.
There is nothing too unusual about having the canopy over the entrance to a garden room. What is different here, is that the Outside In team have stopped the canopy before it reaches the end of the wall. The side wall has been detailed as a parapet wall, trimmed with powder coated aluminium coping. The combination and connection between the two elements, is to our eye, striking!
A room with ensuite and storage
Set in the Perthshire hills in Scotland, the building is 5.2m wide x 4.2m deep. The internal space has been divided to create a shower room and a storage cupboard. Working with a company like Outside In Garden Rooms you can work out the interior layout that works for your needs.
The ensuite shower room is compact but again is well detailed. The shower having been fully tiled and mixed with contemporary fittings.
Outside In Garden Rooms handle the groundworks and connections to the mains services as part of their overall project.
