As Swift Garden Rooms resume their installations of bespoke buildings around the UK, this London project makes relevant and interesting reading:
David's Story....
David contacted Swift back in June 2018. He had just made some high-level changes to his business and work life and wanted to research a perfect location for his new office - his garden.
As is so often the case in London, they had extended the family home, and would still like some top-quality extra space - without months of upheaval and potentially hundreds of thousands of pounds investment. A good-sized garden gave the opportunity to consider a detached space - and the advantages of some separation from the main house were quickly seen to be very appealing.
So, the wish-list was compiled: Plenty of space to provide areas for working as well as relaxation for the whole family; A shower room and toilet to add flexibility and value to the investment; Lots of glass through which to enjoy the garden view and keep a "connection" with the main house; An eye-catching and impressive appearance - after all, this would be on show from the house; Excellent quality and longevity - essential to make financial sense of investing in extra accommodation.
Swift soon understood the aspirations that David and his family had, and set to work on initial designs and costings. After a site survey, further designs were prepared and images / floorplans of his new building were created. Once we were all confident that our relationship was producing the outcome that was required, we arranged for David to view another of our recently completed rooms that was not too far from his family home.
After tweaking the design slightly and opting for higher than the 2.5m restriction with permitted development, we engaged our planning consultant on David's behalf. There were some complications due to a Tree Protection Order being imposed on a nearby Oak, but these were all dealt with and permission was successfully granted.
Work on the site commenced in late May 2019 and within days the main structure was erected (no mean feat with all the materials having to be carefully taken through the house!).

Beautifully nestled beneath the trees, the 8m x 5m space boasts a large versatile main room with 2 separate zones. Work and relaxation. A compact shower room and w/c, complemented with a service area with a sink adds a major plus in terms of the versatility the garden room can provide, not only today, but in many years to come.
Out of the blue, we just received a lovely email from David expressing his upmost gratitude for his garden room, particularly in light of the current COVID 19 pandemic.
