Low-maintenance Garden Spaces office
Published: 29 December 2022
A garden office building is a significant investment; you will want to ensure it will stand the test of time. To achieve this goal, you will want to work with a company that offers durable exterior finishes that offer a long, low-maintenance lifespan.
Garden Spaces, one of the longest-established names in the garden room industry, offer a wide range of low-maintenance, aesthetically pleasing exterior finishes for their buildings. Just explore the archive of articles we have written about their projects, and you will quickly see what an extensive range of exterior finishes Garden Spaces offers.
Ebony Thermowood & Cement Particle Board
With this bespoke garden office, Garden Spaces have mixed two durable exterior cladding finishes. On the front elevation, Thermowood cladding has been used. Thermowood is Scandinavian Redwood that is treated at very high temperatures, which changes the structural composition of the wood, making it a highly durable choice with a long lifespan.
Naturally, Thermowood has a distinctive grain pattern and a honey-brown colouring, which will weather to a silver colour as it ages. Thermowood takes stains and paints very well. In this case, an Ebony-coloured oil-based stain has been applied to the boards.
Oil-based stains are a great choice as they colour and protect the boards evenly. It's rather nice that you can still see some of the grain patterns of the wood.
The other three elevations, which face the garden's boundaries, have been finished with cement particle boards. A highly durable choice that is dimensionally stable and not susceptible to rot.
Garden Spaces colour matches the cement particle boards with the other finishes used on the exterior of the garden room. In this case, RAL9005 Resifine was applied. Resifine is a flexible and durable finish that has a smooth surface once dried.
Doors and cladding colour matched
Part of the success of this garden office project is that Garden Spaces have matched the bi-fold door frames with the cladding and trims.
High-spec bi-fold doors with powder-coated aluminium frames have been used. As we can see, once open, the bi-fold doors create a lovely connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Composite deck and roof overhang create a welcoming entrance
The roof extends beyond the front wall to create a canopy detail. Garden Spaces have recessed exterior grade downlights into the underside of the canopy. These lights will cast a lovely glow down the front of the building.
A decked step mirrors the canopy. Garden Spaces have used black composite decking, which will not become slippery as timber decking can.
Light, airy interior
Garden Spaces finish their rooms to a high spec internally. They offer a range of flooring options. In this case, Garden Spaces customers chose Smoked Oak laminate. The walls and ceiling are plastered and decorated, creating a light, airy interior.
