When working with a bespoke design specialist like eDEN Garden Rooms, the garden room design process is a collaborative process between client and designer. The client’s ideas and vision are at the centre of this process. With the designer using their knowledge and skills to transform the client’s vision into reality.
eDEN Garden Rooms client approached them with very specific ideas and needs for a home office. The dimensions of the office needing to be designed around a large built-in desk setup. He also wanted the building to incorporate a storage room.
A design that filled the end on the London garden was decided upon. Building tight to the boundaries like this means the structure needs to comply with Building Regulations. To achieve this, the eDEN Garden Rooms team clad the walls that face the boundaries with a non-combustible, fire retardant panels. The front wall was able to be clad in Western Red Cedar.
A 5.93m x 2.5m building was created. So, a wide but narrow building. The front of the building was shaped to make a feature of the French doors. A further window has been fitted in the recessed wing. The positioning of the glazing is important and the client’s desk will face out into the garden.
The left-hand ‘wing’ houses a storage shed. This is accessed via a door on the front elevation. The door to the shed area has been clad in the same Cedar as used on the walls. The boards have been carefully matched so that it blends into the wall.
As is common with London projects, there was no direct access to the garden from the road. The eDEN Garden Rooms team had to walk all the materials through the house and into the garden.
Usually, eDEN Garden Rooms would use ground screws for the foundation for the building. In this case, there was already a concrete base in place, so the structure was designed around that type of foundation system.
The project took 2 weeks from arrival on site to completion and cost around £20,000.
