One of the main trends in garden room design this year has been to add a covered seating area alongside your insulated building. Brookwell Garden Rooms are one of the companies leading the way with this design feature. A while ago, we featured a corner garden room with a two-sided covered seating area that they had designed and built.
A covered outdoor seating area creates a sheltered spot for entertaining. In this new COVID secure world we find ourselves in, meeting friends outside is our safest option, and a covered, but open seating area like this gives you the benefits of being outside while offering some protection from the weather! Add an outdoor heater, and you can extend the usability even further.
As well as somewhere to sit and chat, you could use a covered area like this as an outdoor dining room. Or another popular option is to add a hot tub under the canopy.

Canopies come in sizes 3m x 2m upwards
Brookwell Garden Rooms are able to create their canopy to suit your requirements, with sizes 3m x 2m upwards. They are designed to knit into the side of the insulated outdoor room seamlessly. So, the two spaces distinct look like one.
This stylish outdoor room with canopy is an example of Brookwell Garden Rooms Modern Range. The insulated outdoor room is 5m x 3m. As we can see, the canopy area ties into the front wall creating an L-shaped building.
Designed as an outdoor sitting room, the canopy overhang has two solid walls clad in the same Western Red Cedar as the insulated room. Usually, the roof canopy, in such designs, is solid but in this case, an open skylight has been fitted offering views of the trees and the sky as you look upwards.
The roof of the canopy has been finished with an EPDM membrane. This is the same roof covering as used for the insulated main room. EPDM is laid in one piece, so there are no joints to leak and has a lifespan of 25 years plus.
The floor of the canopy, which has two open sides is low maintenance composite decking. The Anthracite colouring matches that on the door and window frame and looks smart mixed with the Cedar cladding. Composite decking doesn't become slippery like timber decks can, so is an excellent choice for an area like this.
Two outdoor heaters have been fitted in the canopy area, meaning the owners can sit outside comfortably in the evening and even during the colder months.
For a little extra glamour, colour changing LED downlights have been fitted in the canopy. They look great at night!
