In many cases, garden offices can be built under the Permitted Development rules meaning you don’t need to make a full Planning Application. However, if you find you do need to make a planning application for your project, designers like Timeless Garden Rooms will work with you and the Local Authority to design a building that stands a good chance of gaining approval.
In this case, Timeless Garden Rooms customer lives in an area with tough planning requirements. The Timeless Garden Rooms designers liaised with the Local Authority, and it was agreed that a small garden office in a traditional style could be built at the end of the customers garden. The approval came with a number of stipulations; planting had to be incorporated both in front of the building and behind it, as the office backs onto a public footpath. It was also agreed that a veranda would run along the front of the office so that climbing and trailing plants could be grown up and around the building helping it to blend into the garden.
Timeless Garden Rooms have a flair for creating buildings that ooze traditional charm and detailing. Choosing a pitched roof garden office has meant that the owners have the beauty of a Cedar shingle roof, we don’t see this lovely finish enough these days! The roof extends beyond the front wall to create a covered veranda area along the front of the office. This veranda features a traditionally turned balustrade. The choice of a soft green paint for the weatherboard cladding will quickly help the building blend with the planting around the office, as it becomes more established.
A veranda like this is a great way of creating an immediate connection between a garden office and the garden. It is also a great place to spend your coffee breaks!
The office will have lots of natural light thanks to the large window on the front elevation which has half-glazed French doors alongside. A further letterbox shaped window has been fitted high in the side wall which offers some additional light, yet doesn’t overlook and invade the privacy of the neighbours garden.
As you can see from these images, the garden office has transformed the garden. Between them, the Planners, the customer and the Timeless Garden Rooms team have designed a lovely building that will enhance the garden in the decades to come.
