A timber-clad garden office is not right for everyone. Some people fear the ongoing maintenance commitment and the change in appearance as the timber cladding is exposed to UV-light. Luckily, there are alternatives to timber cladding for garden offices — one of the most popular being a render finish.
It takes skill to apply render well, so the number of garden room companies who offer it is relatively small. You will want to work with a specialist company like Bridge Garden Rooms who are used to applying render finishes to their garden rooms.
Bridge Garden Rooms use a specialist silicone-based render system called k-Render. The silicone in the render mix helps it repel water from the surface. Yet, it still allows the structure of the garden office to breathe, which is vitally important.
The silicone in the k-Render also helps the finish stay looking fresh. It maintains its crisp new appearance longer than alternative render mixes. The k-Render is also pre-coloured, meaning it does not require painting to stay looking good. There is a wide palette of colours to choose from. The white finish chosen by this customer looks very sharp mixed with the Anthracite grey doors, windows and trims. The white render looks bright and fresh, even in the twilight of these photos.
Rendered wall mixed with Alupanel
The rendered walls have been mixed with Alupanel in Anthracite grey. The Alupanel has been used to detail the skirt around the base of the office and the fascia and soffit boards of the roof.
Alupanel is a composite sheet material which is made up of layers of polyethene and aluminium; it comes in a wide range of colours. The option of Anthracite grey matches in perfectly with that used for the doors and windows.
Garden office with big windows
Bridge Garden Rooms have designed this garden office so that it will be flooded with natural light. We are loving the use of big windows in this building. On the front elevation, there is a 1.5m wide set of double doors. On either side of the doors are 1.1m wide fixed pane full-height windows. It is great how the windows have been spaced so that they are framed by wide sections of the rendered finish.
The window on the side elevation offers a wow factor feature. It is 2.4m wide, creating a great connection between inside and outside spaces. So that the owners can easily let air into the room, the top sections of this window open. This is a smart way to incorporate opening windows into a floor to ceiling window configuration.
Plasterboard and skim interior
When it comes to the interior finishes, Bridge Garden Rooms offer a plasterboarded and skimmed finish as standard. Mixed with laminate flooring, it creates the feel of a room in a new build house.
Well specified electrics
Bridge Garden Rooms offer a well-specified standard electrical pack. The electrical specification includes a consumer unit, plentiful power sockets, LED downlights recessed in the ceiling and exterior grade LED lights recessed into the roof soffits.
