As teenagers navigate their path towards adulthood, they often crave their own space—a place where they can entertain friends, study in peace, and unwind, all while flexing their burgeoning independence. At this pivotal life stage, a garden room can perfectly meet these needs, offering an exclusive haven a stone's throw away from the family home. By choosing a garden annexe that complies with Building Regulations, this personal oasis can even serve as a sleepover spot, further amplifying its appeal.
This 40sqm annexe by Timeless Garden Rooms is a striking illustration of this concept. Specifically designed with the teenage family members in mind, this tailor-made garden annexe strikes the perfect balance between adolescent independence and familial proximity. Far from being a transient solution, this annexe is a versatile space that promises to evolve alongside the family. The family plan to use the space as an entertainment space on summer evenings and as guest accommodation.
Turnkey service, including the planning process
Timeless Garden Rooms offer a turnkey service. This end-to-end service manages the entire project, starting from the initial design conception, extending into the construction phase, right through to the final decoration, and connecting to the mains services. This approach ensures that clients can look forward to their perfect space without the stress and hassle of project managing the build themselves.
An integral part of this turnkey service is navigating the often complex planning approval process. For clients, this can seem a daunting task, but Timeless Garden Rooms uses their wealth of experience and contacts to streamline this process, ensuring a smooth journey to approval.
With this 40sqm annexe project, the planning process involved obtaining tree and biodiversity surveys, which Timeless Garden Rooms handled on their client's behalf. They also prepared a comprehensive method statement for installation, outlining measures to protect the surrounding environment during the construction process.
Timeless Garden Rooms' commitment to versatility and adaptability was brought to the fore when the Planning Department requested a 'softer' roofline for the annexe. The Timeless team revised the design to feature an asymmetrical roofline. By offsetting the ridge, they successfully lowered the overall height of the roof, adhering to the planning requirements.
What could have been seen as a constraint turned out to be a creative opportunity. This design alteration allowed them to incorporate a sleeping deck above the shower room. This innovative use of vertical space created an area for a double bed, adding a whole new functional dimension to the annexe. It's an excellent example of how an experienced designer can respond to planning requirements.
Timeless Garden Rooms ooze character
Timeless Garden Rooms' designs stand out in the market for the character they offer, seamlessly blending functionality and aesthetics. The exterior of their garden annexes is particularly striking, featuring Farrow & Ball painted weatherboard cladding and Western Red Cedar roof shingles. These materials and colours subtly soften the structure, enabling it to blend harmoniously with the garden's textures and tones.
Emphasising this connection with the outdoors, the annexe incorporates three sets of French doors. These doors open outwards, encouraging an interplay between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Complete with kitchenette and shower room
Stepping inside the annexe reveals a distinct interior aesthetic that sets it apart from the traditional plastered interiors of a house. Timeless Garden Rooms and their clients have come together to craft an interior that exudes a comfortable character. The walls feature faux panelling, finished in a Farrow & Ball shade, providing a lovely contrast to the rich dark wood flooring.
The annexe also features a well-appointed shower room, fitted with the owner's choice of sanitaryware. As part of their turnkey service, Timeless Garden Rooms handled the necessary groundworks and the final connection to the mains services, with everything signed off by Building Control.
The annexe also includes a stylish kitchenette. This allows the teenagers and future guests the convenience of whipping up snacks without the need to intrude upon the main house.
As we can see, every detail of the annexe's interior has been carefully designed and executed to create an independent, comfortable living environment that complements the natural surroundings and caters to the evolving needs of the family.
