Building a living annexe in your garden for a relative is not only a significant financial investment but also an investment in your loved one's future comfort and lifestyle. The Swift Living Annexes team understand this.
When you contact the Swift team about creating a self-contained living annexe, they will arrange a time to sit down with you to understand how you and your family envision the annexe working. They will also explore your aspirations for features and finishes to be incorporated into your new home.
The Swift team will then use their 14+ years of experience to draw up designs unique to you. We have featured several Swift Living Annexes over the years, and while they all have similarities, each one has been customised for that customer and how they wish to live. There is no one size fits all option when you choose to work with Swift!
Swift offers a project-managed turnkey package, whereby they will handle all elements of the project for you from initial design through to handing over the keys to the ready to occupy home.
This full-service approach includes submitting the planning application and ensuring that the Building Regulations are met and signed off.
Designed for comfortable living
Swift Living Annexes are designed for long-term, comfortable year-round use. Each annexe is a multi-layer structure built upon a structurally insulated panel (SIP) core structure.
This highly insulated building envelope is coupled with high-spec Aluminium framed doors and windows with performance Argon-filled glazing.
Swift offers a range of heating and cooling options so that you can choose the ideal system for your new home.
This combination of design details means that a Swift Living Annexe is energy efficient to run - a feature that has never been so important with energy costs being as they are!
9m x 5m pitched roof living annexe
This 9m x 5m pitched roof living annexe is a fine example of a Swift bespoke living annexe.
With this project, Swift's clients and their daughter and son-in-law had brought a new house together, with a view to building a one-bedroom self-contained annexe in the garden.
With this project, Swift's clients and their daughter and son-in-law had brought a new house together, with a view to building a one-bedroom self-contained annexe in the garden.
The customised accommodation layout comprises an open-plan main room with a modern L-shaped kitchen with seating and dining areas.
This main living space has a lovely light feel, thanks to the French doors that look out onto the garden and the large skylight fitted into the roof. The natural light from which bounces off the plastered and decorated walls.
The vaulted ceiling formed by the pitched roofline creates interior spaces with a more spacious feel than their flat roof counterparts.
The main living room leads into a spacious double bedroom with an ensuite shower.
The bedroom has a window overlooking the garden and a door leading out into the garden, which is a nice feature, particularly on a summer's day.
Mix of durable exterior finishes
Externally the annexe has been finished with a mix of low-maintenance, long-lasting materials. Aesthetically pleasing Western Red Cedar cladding has been mixed with a crisp white render. Combined with the grey door and window frames, the annexe has a smart contemporary appearance, as seen in these photos.
Ready to move into in 5 weeks
The Swift team was on-site for five weeks, arriving to find a blank space and leaving their clients with a new home they could move straight into.
A similar living annexe would cost from £98,600 and comes with a 10-year structural warranty.
Swift has a section on their website dedicated to their living annexes, do check it out. Alternatively, chat with the Swift team on 01625 875 588 or email them: at support@swiftorg.co.uk.
