A year in the planning, this riverside outdoor sitting room by Swift has exceeded its owner’s expectations, isn’t that great to hear!
Micheal approached the Swift team around a year ago to explore his options to make his vision for an outdoor sitting room, overlooking a river in North Wales, a reality. A site visit was organised which allowed the Swift team to assess the site and get a clear understanding of what Micheal wanted to achieve.
Working with bespoke design specialists Swift, is a collaborative process between customer and designer, honing the designs until it is just right. The design process included addressing important technical and planning issues, which the Swift team are au fait with dealing with.
A 6.3m x 3m building which incorporates a secret storage area was decided upon. The views of the river and connection with the newly landscaped garden were key design considerations. To achieve this, a huge 4m wide set of sliding doors has been fitted on the front elevation. Bi-fold doors have been fitted on the end wall, creating a glazed corner – a clever combination.
Externally, this garden room stands out in the market because of its black colour palette. A black garden room is not unique, but they are not common compared to Cedar clad designs. Some companies stain timber cladding to create the black finish; this requires maintenance to keep it in good condition. The Swift team and their client decided on a black composite wood cladding. Composite wood finishes come in varying qualities, Swift choosing a high-quality option, befitting this stylish building. Composite wood is a mixture of natural wood fibres, resins and colour pigments, which combine to make a durable board which is dimensionally stable and will maintain its colour without ongoing maintenance.
The black cladding has been mixed with black door frames and room trims. This simple colour palette is striking in its simplicity. We particularly like how the black exterior enhances the view into the room itself.
The garden room was fully installed in two weeks. The Swift team are understandably pleased with the result, commenting:
