Swift man cave slots into a tight space
Published: 14 January 2023
Bespoke garden room designers excel when presented with an irregularly shaped plot or confined space to work with. This man cave building by Swift Garden Rooms showcases the skills of a bespoke design practice.
When it comes to bespoke garden room designs, Swift is one of the most experienced names in the industry. The archive of articles we have written about their work over the last 14 years showcases how they tailor each building around the customer's garden and intended use.
With this project, Swift Garden Rooms were commissioned to design a multi-function leisure space at the end of their client's garden. The intended plot sits within three boundary fences and an existing building.
Proposed design
During their initial talks, the Swift team identified that their client wanted to create a multifunctional space that offered a seating area with room for a large tv. They also wanted to add a pool table and bar area. Swift's client also wanted to add a cloakroom with w.c.
The addition of the cloakroom facilities not only increases the useability of the garden room today but also helps futureproof the space for both the current and future owners of the house.
Following the initial conversations and armed with their client's wishlist, the Swift team got to work on the design stage.
As we can see from this floor plan, they created an L-shaped building that maximises the space within the boundary fences and the existing building.
The front elevation is 7m wide, with the rear of the room being 5m wide. The building is 4.2m deep.
Cleverly positioned cloakroom
It is a clever choice to utilise the small wing area to accommodate the cloakroom. The 900mm wide cloakroom leaves space outside for the bar area.
A pocket door has been fitted to maximise the space further. As you open a pocket door, it disappears within the wall structure, so it is a great choice when you have limited space. Not many garden room companies offer pocket doors, but Swift has used them on several projects.
Well-specified interior
Swift finishes the interior of their garden rooms to a high specification. The walls and ceiling are professionally plastered and then decorated.
The wall where the TV hangs has been reinforced to take the weight of the television. This sort of specification enhancement is another example of where bespoke garden room design comes into its own.
The Swift team installed a hardwired internet connection into the garden room so that the owners will have a reliable connection for streaming films etc.
Collingwood LED downlights have been recessed into the ceiling. The set of downlights positioned over the pool table has its own switch so the owners can create the perfect lighting arrangement for a game.
Low-maintenance exterior finishes
Swift Garden Rooms choose quality, low-maintenance finishes for the exterior of their buildings.
The front elevation features a 3m wide set of powder-coated aluminium bi-fold doors. As we can see, the doors fold to one side, creating a wonderful connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
