We have written about triangular garden studios designed to slot into the corner of a garden before, but this recent build by Sanctum Garden Studios features the acutest angles we have seen.
Sanctum Garden Studios were approached by customer Nigel to create a bespoke garden studio that would sit in the corner of his garden. The Sanctum designers created an acute triangle floorplan with the longest side, ie the front wall being 4.6 meters. This has created a wall that has space for a wide set of uPVC French doors with floor to ceiling sidelights.
The front elevation has been clad in the popular Western Red Cedar cladding. As the building is sited tight to the boundaries of the garden an low maintenance weatherboard cladding has been used on the rear and left-hand wall. Sanctum Garden Studios use a product called Rangewood which is made from strands of wood mixed with resins making it highly durable. It comes in a wide range of colours, dark grey being the most popular finish. This weatherboarding can be fixed in place before the walls are finished, negating the need for access space to be left around the building for fixing. Some companies would insist on at least 450mm being left on each side for the cladding to be fixed, so the choice of this material maximises the space inside the studio.
Sanctum Garden Studios had a steel floor frame manufactured for this project. This system is easy to level and allows the insulated floor panels to be slotted in quickly.
The customer chose to have the interior plasterboarded, they then had a local plasterer skim the walls and ceiling. The Sanctum team would plaster the interior for you, but in their transparency of trying to keep their studios ‘truly affordable’, they let customers know that it is maybe cheaper to engage a local plasterer, rather than pay the Sanctum team to be on-site for an additional day.
