Responding to the shift in home working, Architects Stephen Butt & Simon Cantrell have designed the WorkAway Plectrum as a one-person home office, ideal for the corner of a small garden or for larger gardens where you don't want a building to dominate the space.
Stephen & Simon's design skills, mixed with the timber-framed engineering experience of Bolton Buildings, has created a quality design and specification that is affordable.
Curved design stands out from the crowd
The curved 'plectrum' shape of the office stands out in the market of timber-clad cubes. With an overall footprint of just over 4sqm, the WorkAway Plectrum has a maximum depth of 2m. Being less than 2.5m high, this micro office can be built under the Permitted Development rules.
The exterior of the WorkAway Plectrum is finished in matt black corrugated metal. This finish accentuates the fluid lines of the building. It has the added bonus of being a low maintenance finish with a long lifespan.
An oak framed single door leads into the office — light from the double glazed door bounces off the stylish Birch plywood interior, creating a comfortable work setting.
Designed for comfortable year-round use
The engineered timber frame of the WorkAway Plectrum is filled with mineral wool insulation, so that the office is warm in winter and cool in summer.
For the colder days of the year, the office comes with a heater that can be controlled manually or via wi-fi. The heater sits discreetly on one wall, without encroaching on the floor space.

The WorkAway Plectrum has short lead times. You will be given an installation date as you order. This is typically 4 to 8 weeks from order. The on-site build is completed in just a day.
The design of the WorkAway Plectrum means that significant foundations are not required. It could, for instance, be installed on an existing patio using the Plectrum's adjustable pedestal footings.
The Plectrum comes complete with 2 x spotlights, 2 x double power sockets and an ethernet data socket. So, it is just a case of connecting to the mains electrics and your internet router, and you are ready to start work.
Work ready option
You can buy just the WorkAway Plectrum building or the 'Work Ready' package, which comes complete with a fitted L-shaped desk that provides 2 linear metres of desk space and a fitted shelving system.
